Newsletter February/March 2024

It’s nice to be well into 2024 after a busy Christmas andNew Year season.  We hope everyone enjoyed some of the festive spirit with family – whanau, and friends.  We are thankful for the pleasant weather which was a much-appreciated ‘proper’ summer after the awful non-summer we endured a year ago.

Our thoughts are with those still suffering the effects of cyclone Gabrielle and the floods that hit the month before.

OCS has started the year all systems go – with everyone bright and ready for the year.  We have some staff changes – one leaving to venture into new horizons and one beginning a new start with us.  Change is a good thing, keeps us on our toes.

Our first Community/Senior lunch for the year was held onWednesday 7th February and we were pleased to see most of the regulars plus a few new faces enjoying the homemade fruit cake morning tea and tasty mid-day meal.   This regular event has been running long before I even started at OCS roughly 12 years ago.  I believe it was held at the Supper Room of the Centennial Hall, then to the Footprints Room at Holy Trinity AnglicanChurch and then to the St John Hall.  Its tarted life as a monthly event which continued on until Covid 19, then after a couple of years we moved to bi-monthly.

We are excited to announce that this year will see us in a joint venture with The Good News Church. The Community Lunch will be for all ages, served as a buffet style, and held in the church hall at 98 Hurndall Street East, Maungaturoto.  The date for the first lunch is WEDNESDAY APRIL 10TH.  We will continue bi-monthly for a while and any changes will be announced in good time.

Our van trips to Whangarei started up again on Tuesday 13th February, and again on Wednesday 28th – these being the 2nd Tuesday and the 4th Wednesday of the month.

Our dates for March are as follows:  Mark it on your calendar

*  Free shopping trip to Whangarei:  Tuesday 12th March,Wednesday 27th March

The van leaves the parking area up the drive at theRetirement Village, Maungaturoto, and returns in the afternoon.  You can go to any of the supermarkets, shops, cafes or businesses while having none of the driving or parking issues.  Let us do that for you.

Remember to keep the 10th of April available to join us for our Community Lunch

Take care of each other

From all at OCS
