October

Just when we were looking forward to some spring weather and milder temperatures, there came an icy blast up from the south which set our cooks thinking about hot comfort food for the monthly seniors’ lunch. A hearty beef casserole was decided on. Thank you to our great cooking helper and our wonderful volunteers. Also we owe a big thank you to the group of children from Kaipara Kids Club and their staff and parents for putting on a gorgeous and entertaining display for our seniors. It is so encouraging to see the little ones putting their skills and talents out there at such an early age.
We are getting ready for the Annual General Meeting on 21 September, 3pm at the Community House. Please take this as an open invitation to you all, and please also consider whether you would like to become a member of our Governance Board. Many of our people have devoted their time for a number of years and whilst we don’t want to lose them, family and work commitments can mean some things have to take a back seat. Change can be a good thing though for organisations where quite often new people can breathe different and exciting views into the proceedings. So remember, there may be a vacancy or two for caring, community-minded individuals to join in the overall governance of our agency.
The Food Bank has been busy with quite a mixture of situations calling for that little extra help which we all know can make such a difference when things are difficult. We thank those lovely generous members of the community for their donations towards our supplies.
A big thank you to Noel Radd who with John Hoggard and Danny Morris has sourced a brilliant new car for the Community House. This is a great asset which will make life easier for our professionals in their visiting work and for our Food Bank shopping.
